Stop Education

Stop education about the patent system based on the assumption that markets are stupid and lack awareness. That small companies apply for less patents shows how a patent system discriminates small players who don't 'buy them'. In a liberal democracy governments do not educate the constituencies but listen to their needs.

Sounds reasonable? You find an elitist ideology everywhere in patent discussions. Empirical data shows that the individual inventor and the innovative small-medium enterprise applying for patents are fringe cases. In fact the current patent system discriminates small players and patents become more valuable when you get a patent portfolio (a field of land mines as opposed to a single land mine).

But as patent laws are covered by a belief system these empirical results show that indivuals and small and medium enterprises just lack information and governments should raise more awareness about the benefits of patent protection among concerned parties.
